In a rural Indian village called Ujhaas, three ordinary women struggle to break free from misogynistic century-old traditions that have kept them locked in servitude. Rani is a widow all set to marry off her young son to a reluctant young girl from the neighbouring village; Lajjo is a childless woman in an abusive marriage; Bijli is a local dancer who gets farmed out for money by her handler. The women face violent abuse, both physical and mental. But within their worlds are rare progressive men, too, who treat women as their equals. The women learn to fight back, and understand that change will come about only when women support each other.
