Akylbek Abdykalykov was born in Kyrgyzstan in 1948. In 1972 he graduated from GITIS (State Institute of Theatrical Art, Moscow). Predominantly working on stage, Abdykalykov is responsible for many famous performances in various Kyrgyz productions. His role in Night Accident as a man who builds an unconventional friendship following a road accident is one of only a small handful of cinematic portrayals he has given and his first in a quarter of a century since Where’s Your Home, Snail? (1992). For his performance in Night Accident, Abdykalykov won Best Actor at the Qingdao Film Festival. He is currently the Chairman of the Committee on State Awards in the fields of culture, art and architecture in Kyrgyzstan.
