Baris Özbiçer was born in 1976 in England before moving together with his family to Istanbul in 1980. He studied at the Film and TV Department of Marmara University, meanwhile working as a camera assistant, and went on to finish his MA degree on Arts and Crafts of Film Making at London Film School. His first feature behind the camera was Toss up (2004). Honey received the Golden Bear Award at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival and Baris won the Best Achievement Award in Cinematography for Honey at the Istanbul Film Festival 2010. His  feature film Majority won the Lion of the Future Award for Best Debut Film at the 2010 Venice Film Festival.
