Jonas Weydemann was born in Hamburg, Germany, and has lived in Italy, the USA and France. He studied film production at the German Film and Television Academy (dffb) in Berlin and is an alumnus of IDFAcademy, ep2c, Rotterdam Lab, SOFA, Cannes Producers Network, Berlinale Talents, and EAVE Producer’s Workshop.
Jonas is a winner of the Robert Bosch Co-Production Prize and was programming director at the short film festival Wendland Shorts (2007-2017). He is EAVE’s national coordinator for Germany, group leader at the European-Asian producers workshop Ties That Bind (TTB) and member of the German, French-German and European Film Academies.
Together with his brother Jakob he founded the production company Weydemann Bros. in 2012.
Weydemann Bros. produces films and series for the German and international markets. It is guided by the vision of an equally political and entertaining filmic storytelling. For Weydemann Bros., film is always a critical observation of the times and the world in which we live. The goal is to make many people laugh and cry with the company’s films and to make them reflect. Weydemann Bros. develops projects together with authors and directors and builds long-term creative partnerships.
Films by Weydemann Bros. have won over 100 prizes, among them 10 German Film Awards, the Berlinale Silver Bear, the Grand Prix of La Semaine de la Critique of the Festival de Cannes and a European Film Award. The films have been selected for the official entry to the Oscars Best Foreign Language Film, have been preselected for numerous German Film Awards and were screened at international film festivals worldwide. In 2019 Weydemann Bros. was awarded as one of Variety’s “10 producers to watch“ at the Cannes film festival and won the Bavarian Film Award and the Award of the city of Hamburg for best producers.
