Katsushika Hokusai is one of the best known Japanese artists. His works inspired Monet and Debussy. His Great Wave off Kanagawa is so iconic that it can be seen on t-shirts and coffee mugs all over the world. However, very few are aware of his daughter, and how she contributed to her father’s art. Unfolding through the changing seasons, this is the untold story of O-Ei, the artist’s daughter; a lively portrayal of a free-spirited, outspoken and highly talented woman: “We’re father and daughter; with two brushes and four chopsticks, we’ll get by anywhere”. Based on the manga Sarusuberi by Hinako Sugiura.
