The Asia Pacific Screen Awards has announced the recipients of the APSA Children’s Film Fund. Founded in partnership with Manila-based 4 Boys Films, the fund provides script development grants for films specifically with life-affirming messages for and about children of Asia Pacific.

The grants are offered exclusively to APSA Academy members, and are intended to stimulate the development of feature film projects originated by APSA Academy members and their colleagues across Asia Pacific.

Two filmmakers will each receive $AU20,000 from the APSA Children’s Film Fund. The recipients are:

Nan Achnas (pictured right) from Indonesia for her project Beautiful Shadows

Ainsley Gardiner from New Zealand – for The Song Jar

A panel of three eminent film practitioners determined the recipients. Panellists were Anne Démy-Geroe, APSA Nominations Council member, joined by the directors of two films nominated in this year’s APSA Best Children’s Feature Film category –  Rajan Khosa from India, director of Gattu, and Ami Drozd from Israel, director of Australia Sheli (My Australia).

Formed in 2008, the APSA Academy boasts a membership of around 600 of the region’s most respected names in film. Each year APSA nominees, International Jury and Nominations Council members are inducted into the Academy, which has become a vital industry network, and the only Academy of its kind in this region.
