I am delighted to welcome the nominees, juries, academy members and guests to the 13th Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
It is my distinct pleasure to induct this year’s nominees and the new panel, council and jury members to the Asia Pacific Screen Academy. They join the region’s most powerful platform that connects our filmmakers for a common goal of igniting and honouring cinematic excellence.
The Academy marks a significant milestone this year; 10 years of the MPA APSA Academy Film Fund. Tonight’s announcement brings the total number of projects funded to 40, an incredible feat, and I thank the MPA for their unwavering support.
The echo of these 40 unique voices spans the globe, they have changed perceptions, challenged norms and have made a tangible impact on the place in which we all live. After all film is the universal language and Asia Pacific film has come of age. I congratulate this year’s class of 2019.
