Farhan Akhtar is an accomplished and award-winning producer-director-writer-actor-singer. He is also a co-founder of Excel Entertainment along with Ritesh Sidhwani. Debuting at the age of 26 as a writer, director and producer with Dil Chahta Hai (2001), a coming-of-age film, he won his first National Award for Best Hindi Feature Film. Seven years after his debut as a writer-director, Farhan debuted as an actor-singer in Rock On!! The film secured him a second National Award for Best Hindi Feature Film and a Filmfare award for Best Debut Performance. 

Farhan’s next, a biopic on Indian athlete Milkha Singh, won awards for Best Actor, as well as Best Film. It also claimed the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. In addition to his contribution to Indian cinema, in 2012 he founded MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination), an initiative that raises awareness about gender-related issues among the youth of India. In 2023, Farhan received the Kamla Bhasin Award for Driving Gender Equality Across South Asia. The following year, Excel Entertainment, Tiger Baby and Amazon MGM Studios produced Superboys of Malegaon, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
