Marieka Walsh is a director, screenwriter and animator. She has received five Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards nominations as well as two Australian Directors Guild (ADG) nominations. Her short film The Hunter (SXSW, Palm Springs, Sydney International Film Festival) won several international awards as well as an AACTA Award for Best Short Animation. She went on to direct/animate The Crossing (winner Dendy SFF, Annecy) followed by the opening film for the anthology feature The Turning (Berlinale, MIFF). She has created animation for three feature length documentaries: That Sugar Film (sugar animation), Firestarter (graphic treatment, titles, animated text, SFX, graphics), and After the Apology. She recently directed/animated a segment for a Netflix TV series (to be released 2024).

Marieka studied visual art and holds a Honours degree (SCA – USYD). Her animation/video installations have screened at galleries in Sydney and Melbourne including the Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI). Marieka spent the first decade of her career working in post-production at The Editors.
