XuXinwas born in the Taizhou, Jiangsu Province in 1966. He is an independent documentary filmmaker based in Beijing and Nanjing. He started making independent documentary films in 2000. He directed A Yangtze Landscape (2017), which was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 2017 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
