Named the ‘Queen of Art Films’ in China, Yu Nan’s early career saw her collaborate on three films with director Wang Quan’an, Lunar Eclipse (2000), for which she won the Best Actress prize at the Deauville Asian Film Festival; The Story of Er Mei (2002) for which she won Best Actress at the Paris Film Festival (2004) and Golden Rooster; and Berlin Golden Bear winner Tuya’s Marriage (2006) for which she received Best Actress at the Chicago International Film Festival.

Since then, Yu Nan has starred in Berlin Silver Bear winner In Love We Trust (2006); Deadly Delicious (2007), No Man’s Land (2009) and Wild Blast (2009) by two of the highest profile blockbuster film directors in contemporary China, Ning Hao and Gao Qunshu.

Known internationally for her roles in Speed Racer (2007) and French language film Fureur (2003), she has sat on the Jury for the Pusan International Film Festival’s New Wave Unit (2007), the Chicago (2008), Shanghai (2009) and Berlin (2010) International Film Festivals.

We recognise the integral role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and First Nations peoples continue to play in storytelling and celebration spaces.
