Yuri Klimenko was born in Dnepropetrovsk in 1944. He graduated from the prestigious Russian State University of Cinematography (VGIK) in 1972, and then worked as a camera assistant and as a camera operator at film studios Gruziafilm, Uzbekfilm and Odesskaya Kinostudia. He has worked as a cinematographer on productions at the legendary Mosfilm Studio since 1987. Klimenko is a winner of the prestigious State Prize of the Russian Federation and has won three Russian Academy Awards for Best Cinematography for his work in His Wife’s Diary (2000), Dreaming of Space (2005) and Mu‑Mu (1998). Yuri Klimenko has worked on four movies with director Alexey Uchitel at Rock Films: His Wife’s Diary (2000), The Stroll (2003), Dreaming of Space (2005) and Captive (2008). The Edge is their fifth collaboration, and was Russia’s entry to the 83rd Academy Awards.
