Nomination Detail

Winner, Jury Grand Prize, 2016

Youn Yuh-jung is a South Korean actress who has had a remarkable, broad-ranging and bold career spanning nearly 40 years encompassing more than 80 television series and almost 30 feature films. Youn shot to stardom in her first films, Woman of Fire (1971) and The Insect Woman (1972) — her first of many with auteur Kim Ki-young. As a femme fatale in Woman of Fire, Youn won Best Actress at the 4th Sitges Film Festival. Youn has always set herself apart as an actress who refused to play clichéd devoted mother and wife roles and continues to be nominated for major awards in almost every role she portrays, including a staggering eight Best Supporting Actress awards for her show-stopping performance in Im Sang-soo’s The Housemaid (2010). The Bacchus Lady premiered at Berlinale.
