Winner, Achievement in Cinematography, 2018
Originally from Japan, Hideho began his career in the United States after studying film at New York University. He worked as a camera assistant on the influential television drama NYPD Blue before returning to Japan to work as cinematographer. His second feature, Kamataki (2005) a Japan and Canada co-production, won five awards at the Montreal World Film Festival including the Audience Award. It also won a Special Mention at the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival. Urata won Best Cinematography at the 2009 Montreal Fantasia Film Festival and Best Visual Achievement at the 2009 New York Asian Film Festival for his work on The Clone Returns Home (2008). He is also a Senior Lecturer.

We pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of country, including the custodial communities on whose land works are created and celebrated by the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. We acknowledge the continuing connection to land, waters and communities. We also pay our respects to Elders, past and present. We recognise the integral role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and First Nations peoples continue to play in storytelling and celebration spaces.
