Nomination Detail

Michaël Capron is a cinematographer based in Paris. He studied cinematography at La Fémis, the French national film school. Graduating in 2010, he shot several short and feature films, both fiction and documentary, as well as music videos. He worked as a camera operator (2nd unit) on the Cannes Palme D’Or recipient Blue Is the Warmest Colour. He also shot the features Bruno Reidal, Confessions of a Murderer by Vincent Le Port, which screened at Cannes Critics’ Week 2021, and Salam by Mélanie Diam’s, Houda Benyamina and Anne Cissé, which was in Cannes Official Selection 2022.

More recently, he shot the Colombian feature film El Otro Hijo, which was in the New Directors competition at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, and Mongrel by Chiang Wei Liang, which world premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and won the Camera d’Or Special Mention.

We recognise the integral role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and First Nations peoples continue to play in storytelling and celebration spaces.
